Flags of U.R.E. Symbolic & Visual Synthesizer, Casual Creator 2019 - 2020

„Flags Of …“ is a hyped up digitized version of the flag of the European Union. In the style of a casual creator* it allows users to modify the design of the flag, creating a vast variety of new versions. Parameters include: number of stars, displacement of stars, rotation, color, et cetera. Since the design of flags incorporates a lot of symbolic, often political meaning, modifying the design will also have an influence on the story the flag is communicating. It is kind of as much a visual synthesizer as it is a symbolics synthesizer. But it is also a remix tool and a generative design experiment.

So far this only exists as a website prototype but I am working on an installation version. I would love to show the installation for the first time at A MAZE 2020! I think the installation version should include some kind of user interface that would allow visitors to play with it. I would ditch the current user interface and either built a custom hardware controller or develop an interface that would allow users to control the installation from their smartphone. Various visitors should be able to use it simultaneously!

Also please note that the current version to be seen on my website is still under development and is subject to change. A decent computer is also needed to run the generator fluently and it does not work on mobile devices (because of the interface)!
